LUCKY THIRTEEN
of the Polish EMC Chapter goes to ... the IEEE Museum

czyli o Polskim Oddziale IEEE EMC-S na łamach EMC Magazine piszą Janet O’Neil - redaktor naczelny i Gabe Alcala zastępca redaktora.

"[...] I've noticed the EMC Chapters globally have gotten very active during the pandemic with multiple chapters partnering on webinars and other virtual events. It's widened our exposure to exciting speakers and topics which have greatly enhanced our regular technical programs. As an active member of the Los Angeles EMC Chapter, it's been rewarding to partner with chapters in Asia and Europe, including the Polish EMC Chapter. To celebrate the 40% increase in members over the last six months, the Polish Chapter released a limited numbered series of badges shown above. Krzysztof Sieczkarek, the enthusiastic Chair of Polish EMC Chapter, in agreement with Dan Hoolihan, Chair of the EMC Society History Committee, and Janet O'Neil, the EMC Magazine Editor-in-Chief, agreed that the “Lucky 13” badge would be sent to the IEEE History Center in Piscataway, New Jersey. It was a pleasure trading emails with Krzysztof and learning more about the Polish EMC Chapter and their varied technical program."

"[...] Humanity has been fond of medals for centuries. The meaning "metal (coin)" is from the Greek μέταλλον (medallion) "a mine". The first known instance of a medal being awarded comes from the historian Titus Flavius Josephus. It was an honorary award, a golden button, handed out by Alexander the Great in the fourth century BC to the High Priest Jonathan. Today we do not wear these buttons, and the decorations take the form of not only medals but also badges.
The Polish EMC Chapter has been in existence for over 15 years. To celebrate that the number of members has risen by 40% over the last six months, the Chapter’s board of management has released a limited numbered series of badges. The top ten will go to the former Chapter Chairs. The one holding the number 13 called the LUCKY THIRTEEN by the decision of Krzysztof Sieczkarek, the current Chair of Polish EMC Chapter, in agreement with Dan Hoolihan, Chair of the EMC Society History Committee and Janet O’Neil, Secretary of the EMC Society, will go to the IEEE History Center in Piscataway, New Jersey. Let's hope it will bring good luck for the next 15 years of the Polish EMC Chapter."

The Lucky Thirteen badge is installed in a glass plaque before being shipped by the Polish EMC Chapter to IEEE Headquarters in the USA. The names of the Polish EMC Chapter Chair Krzysztof Sieczkarek and Vice-Chair Miroslaw Zielenkiewicz are shown at the bottom of the plaque.
